Cuisine Kitale
Kitale is a cosmopolitan town with a large Luhya community the staple food is ugali. This is a meal which is prepared from maize meal. It is usually consumed with meat, chicken, fish and vegetables.

The older members of the community prefer the ugali made out finger millet or sorghum which includes dried cassava.
The community also consumes Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes and bananas However what has become very popular is Roasted meat from lamb or beef occasionally you will find roast pork. This is done in many locations at places referred to as Meat Palaces or in the local dialect it is referred to as “Nyama Choma”.

Nyama Choma is the best treat one can ever give to a visitor. The tradition has overshadowed any other cuisine since people do actually enjoy roast meat.

However for a visitor in Kitale nyama Choma does become monotonous. Many eating places do not offer any alternative to this meal. Many people have become very conscious of their diet and find it difficult to have meat classified as Red meat due to health complications.

Pazuri Hotel did recognize this culture as being a challenge and have made every effort to diversify the menu to include a more national and international cuisine. We have prepared a menu that has dishes that appeal to both Asian and European clientele. We have designed our menu to give our clients a taste of the local cuisine and even included the nyama choma so that our clients do not miss out. The clients who stay with us have a chance of enjoying a befitting breakfast that looks almost as lunch. We realize that most of our clients could spend a whole day sight-seeing without having a meal but since they take a good breakfast, they do not need the lunch.

We are also introducing the traditional Sunday brunch for clients who prefer to relax longer on Sundays. These clients miss breakfast and take a brunch which is basically a combination of breakfast and lunch.
The Hotel can also arrange sundowner parties at romantic, scenic locations and there is no shortage in and around Kitale.
Our Muslim guests can enjoy a meal selected from our Swahili dishes menu. The menu consists of dishes made with coconut popularly referred to as Kupaka. We also prepare Indian cuisine. Kitale has a sizable Indian population which is part of Kitale right from pre-colonial days.

The Hotel has trained chefs that are capable of meeting clients wishes and if given advance notice they can prepare meals to clients taste.
